Welcome to VIPKid!! Not a teacher yet? Or thinking about becoming a teacher? Great!! This post is for you. I have been a VIPKid teacher for almost a year now, and it has been an overall positive experience for me.

When I first began teaching for VIPKid, I was a bit overwhelmed. I searched for videos and Blogs from experienced VIPKid teachers, and I found some very helpful information to get me through my first few classes.

One part of setting up your Account is to create an "Introductory Video." Now, if you are new to VIPKid, you probably still feel a bit uncomfortable with your face on video. Don't worry, you'll get use it very soon! My advice for your Introductory video is to keep it simple! A few other tips to help you in creating your video:
  • Pretend you are in class, and welcoming your student for the first time.
  • Speak clearly and and keep your word choice basic.
  • Add a prop for excitement!!

This might be the first time that a future student will see your face, so SMILE and show that positive energy too!!

Comment below with questions! I would love to help you get started with VIPKid teaching! If you are just starting the sign-up process, I would love for you to use my LINK.

Please Note: I receive compensation for teachers that sign-up, pass the interview, AND teach their first class :)

VIPKid... Teacher Heather

About a year ago I started teaching English online through VIPKid. If you are not familiar with VIPKid, it is an online service that provides English instruction to children in China. To become a VIPKid teacher, there are various trainings and interviews that you must complete, but it is definitely worth it. This post will be about my journey to become a VIPKid teacher, including my “why.”
I first learned about VIPKid, in 2019, and always thought it would be a cool side-hustle to bring in some extra income for my family. I mean, teaching English from your couch, yes please! I got more serious about applying to be a VIPKid teacher when the world went into lockdown during the coronavirus, early 2020. I started doing more research about the company and the requirements to teach, and finally got around to signing up, and going through the interviews and training in May/June 2020.
I’ve been teaching classes now for almost a year, and honestly, I wish I would have done this years ago. Here are some reasons that I would encourage you to sign up as a VIPKid teacher:
  1. Teaching - As far as side hustles go, this one comes naturally to people who are already teaching. This was not a new skill that I had to learn, as I’ve been an elementary teacher for 13 years now. The format is slightly different (online), but it was easy to get comfortable with.
  2. Side Hustle - Many teachers have side hustles. This one is just that - a side job to bring in some extra income. Honestly, it’s not the best money, but the more you teach, the more you earn. Also, if you recruit other teachers, you get a bonus! Speaking of which, here is my link to sign up, if you’d like to start the VIPKid process. You can also use my referral code: HEATH1462. Disclaimer: I do get a $100 bonus if you sign up, pass all the interviews, and successfully teach your first class.
  3. Virtual Learning - Many schools have gone back virtually for the 20/21 school year. This means that after-school tutoring and enrichment activities are, most likely, not on the table for many teachers. After school programs have always been a great way to earn extra income, but with virtual and distance learning taking place, those “extras” might not be happening. VIPKid can provide that extra income for you this school year.
  4. Hours - Living in Tennessee, the hours that I teach VIPKid are early morning (5am - 8am). This might not sound great to most people, but as a mom to 2 littles, the hours are perfect for a side-hustle. After-school is tough to get any work done, as I’m making dinner and getting the kiddos ready for bed. Before school (and before anyone else is awake) is the perfect time for a side-hustle for me!
  5. Fun!!! - Teaching English to native Chinese speakers is actually really fun! The students are very sweet and interacting with them has been amazing.

If teaching with VIPKid sounds like something you’d be interested in, I would love to support you and answer any questions that you have. Feel free to leave a comment and I will be happy to answer your questions.
I will continue to blog about my VIPKid experience, so stay tuned for more!
Also, if you’d like to start the sign-up process, HERE is my referral link once again, and my code is HEATH1462.
